The Violence-free Family: Building Block of a Peaceful Civilization

Presented as the keynote address by H. B. Danesh, M.D at the International Symposium on Strategies for Creating the Violence-Free Family, at UNICEF House in New York City, 23-25 May 1994. The symposium was initiated and organized by the Baha'i International Community, and co-sponsored by the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Dr. H. B. Danesh (d. 2020) had a long and distinguished career as professor of psychiatry, as a consultant to government agencies, NGOs, UN agencies, and educational institutions around the world, and as director of the Association for Baha'i Studies (1988-1992) and of Landegg International University (1994-2003). He was the founder of the International Education for Peace Institute)—a nonprofit research, training, community development, and service agency. A prolific author, Danesh published, among other works, The Violence-Free Society: A Gift for Our Children (1979), Unity: The Creative Foundation of Peace (1986), The Violence-Free Family: Building Block of a Peaceful Civilization (1995), The Psychology of Spirituality: From Divided Self to Integrated Self (1997), Unity of Faith and Reason in Action: A Journey of Discovery (2010), and Bahá'u'lláh and the Emergence of an Ever-Advancing Civilization of Peace (2019).
